Here at Heartland Pharmacy, our mission is to make a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve. We are dedicated to gaining trust and building strong relationships with our communities and residents. Heartland pursues excellence in all we do to deliver the highest quality of care.
This year our resident highlight, Anella Seabourn, has graced us with her trust and made a difference in our lives through her unwavering optimism and undeniable sense of humor.
Anella was born on August 25, 1941, in Lafayette, Louisiana. She was raised there with her two sisters until her family moved to East Los Angeles for her final high school years. Although, as she puts it, “I am totally from the South,” stating, “That’s why I say yes ma’am and no ma’am.”
Anella was 17 when she met her husband, Jim, at church. The couple dated for seven months before they were married. They lived in California and had four children: two boys and two girls. By age 23, Anella found herself a single mom with four kids. With the help of her nanny Lily to watch after her kids, she worked two jobs to provide for the family. Anella was successful as a waitress and a bartender, quickly saving up enough money to buy herself a car for $50—The Rambler American.
Anella moved the family around the West as she had opportunities to work. From Long Beach, California, to Ashland, Oregon, they finally settled in Reno, Nevada, in 1976. She worked hard as a bartender, often lifting heavy cases, which led to spinal injuries. She eventually ended up in a body cast for a whole year, with only her cat Yum Yum to keep her company, as her kids had all grown up and left for college. Anella worked her way up the chain at the MGM Grand and took a management position there for a few years.
Following her career in the service industry, Anella tried her luck at lobbying for naturopathy in Carson City, Nevada. At that time, she met an exceptional person in her life who happened to be a lobbyist for firefighters. His name was Julius. The couple spent a lot of time together doing the things they loved. When Anella moved to Boise, Idaho, to be closer to her children, Julius followed to stay close to her. The two of them cherished every moment they had together until Julius passed away.
After losing Julius, with her children pursuing their own successful lives, Anella entrusted Heartland Pharmacy to look after her. We have loved getting to know Anella; she lights up every room she enters. Anella has had an exciting and prosperous life, offering others this advice: “Make it a great life and live it to the fullest!”
Anella is the embodiment of living life to the fullest, and we are so grateful to be able to serve her at Veranda Senior Living.
